Late Hakim Ali Zardari (1930 – 2011), was a great Pakistani politician and father of former President of Pakistan, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, who had served as a Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, first from 1972 to 1977 and then from 1988 to 1990 and finally again from 1993 to 1996.
He was involved in Pakistan’s politics since the 1960 s and had served as a Federal Minister twice in his tenure.
Mr. Zardari was born in 1930 in a little village of taluka Sakrand, Fatohal Zardari. Basically, his father’s family belonged to the Zardari Tribe of Baluchistan, and that family was then recruited by the British to be the Zamindars in Sindh. His mother, who was originally from Iraq. He received his initial education from a Mosque School and completed his Matriculation from DC High School in Nawabshah, now the district Shaheed Benazirabad, old (Nawabshah).
Hakim Ali Zardari came into politics in 1965, Firstly, he had been elected as a Member of the Nawabshah District Council, and later he was elected as the Mayor of District Nawabshah. In the Presidential Elections against Ayub Khan, he had supported Fatima Jinnah in 1965.
In 1970, he had been elected as head of the Zardari Tribe and he also joined the Pakistan Peoples Party as a founding member.
Mr. Hakim Ali was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan in different years as in 1970, 1988, and 1993.
Business Career and Wealth:-
Mr. Zardari had built so many cinema houses in Hyderabad and Karachi and also worked as a Film Distributor. He had also produced a great Sindhi film, called Soorat.
He had a big house in Normandy France, which he was accused of buying for 724 million dollars. A reference was filed against him by The National Accountability Bureau for having assets beyond the source of his income and he was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment, a fine of 18.5 million rupees, and disqualified him from holding any elected office for 10 years. On the health grounds, his house was declared as sub-jail, but On 24th January 2007, Sindh High Court overturned his conviction made by the National Accountability Bureau.
He was also convicted in a similar case in Lahore for making shady transactions with various organizations for establishing a tourist village at Rawalpindi National Park through Zardari Group. Mr. Zardari had been sentenced to jail for 18 months and was asked to pay a fine of Rs. 20 million, but this was also overturned by Lahore High Court in 2002.
Mr. Hakim Ali Zardari got married twice and got four children; Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, Ms. Fouzia Zardari, Madam Azra Peechoho, and Mohtarima Faryal Talpur. He had also adopted a son called Owais Muzaffar Tappi.
Hakim Ali Zardari became ill and he was admitted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in the month of March due to multiple organ failure. He was died in the hospital on 24th of May 2011 at age of 81.
